Open Question: Is Halifax going to be bankrupt and closing down ?

Talking to my friend who lives in the Midlands yesterday, she told me Halifax is going to be shut down cause a large part of their asset were invested in the US. I said what about Lloyd TSB, I heard that a while ago LTSB would like to purchase Halifax. She said the deal was off cuz Lloyd is in trouble itself as well. I live abroad now so I don't know what's going on with banks in Britain. If so, it's a shame. I used to like Halifax. They offered very competitive interest rate on both saving and mortgage. I remember for a while they used to have this black bald head guy as the main character in their TV Commercial singing 'extra,extra--- I will miss the bank. They used to offer good service to me.
