Commercial Loans Program Extended...

Monday, the Treasury Department and the FED said they will extend a key lending commercial loans program aimed at freeing up credit including loans to build offices, apartment buildings and other types of commercial real estate.

A FED release said, "Conditions in financial markets have improved considerably in recent months. Nonetheless, the markets for asset-backed securities backed by consumer and business loans and for commercial mortgage-backed securities are still impaired and seem likely to remain so for some time."

Many lenders have sharply curtailed new commercial loans, leaving many developers and construction companies in a bind.

This is pushing more and more to take advantage of private commercial loans.

Commercial loans shown on the balance sheet as notes payable rank second only to Trade Credit in importance as a source of short term financing. Interest is based on the prime rate.
