Open Question: Possible to look for other lenders while still being processed?

My husband and I wanted to refinance our home. He wanted it to be done asap, so he immediately talked to a lender without me. Long story short, he didn't sign anything, but he did gave required documents the lender asked (e.g. his w2 income, etc.) and the lender said that his application will be processed.Now I am doing the smart thing and am researching more about refinancing, getting the best rates, looking at closing & lender fees, etc. So, is it still possible for us to change lenders, or talked to other mortgage brokers? Or are we "legally" bound to the 1st lender my husband talked too? My husband said that he didn't sign anything (his name is on the title).
